Hi Paul & Lindsay, Looks like one of my Friend Steve Elsey photos???? And Paul will email him what your asking... Cheers Tom Thanks Tom........
Hello Tom, Steve Elsey is a good friend of mine also. It was Steve who found the photograph of Dad standing alongside the three other Glider Pilots under the wing of a Horsa Glider. This photograph has subsequently been also found in several publications. The other photograph was found by our family after my mother's death. I hope Steve will be able to help Paul find the photograph he is looking for. I can remember only too well how excited I was to have a photograph of my father which was taken during WW2, particularly as I knew nothing about his service with the GPR until after my mother died. Steve Elsey and Steve Wright (GPRegt) have both helped me tread the long road of research and discovery about Dad ... with their generous help and input I too now believe that "Nothing is Impossible" ! Best wishes, Lindsay
Well thanks to a forum member (Horsapassenger) I now have a copy of the photo I was looking for! HP went to Middle Wallop and with the help of two Majors and a Brigadier who went through all their archives, he unearthed the pic. Below is a copy that HP sent me and I was wondering if anyone has seen this picture used anywhere eg in a book? All the best and thanks a million to HP and the staff at Middle Wallop...........
Today I went to the British Library Newspaper Archive at Colindale to try and get a better copy of the photo HP so kindly found for me. Sadly the copy of the Daily Express from June 9th 1944 that they hold doesn't have the pic in! The staff said that it might have been from an 'early edition' and as they only hold copies of the 'final editions' they couldn't help
Don't give up just yet! ..... Sorry to hear the photograph was not in the issue of the Daily Express dated 9th June, 1944. I also tried my contact for you but without success: he did however ask if you'd double checked that it was the Daily Express and not the Daily Mail? He does however have a copy of "Images of War" covering Arnhem: this might make an additional Xmas present for your friend together with the photograph you already hold. I've got a copy of this well put together magazine/newspaper covering the Rhine Crossings: it contains many photographs, original personal stories, together with an original issue of the Daily Mail dated 27th March, 1945! I'd be happy to investigate further if it would help. Best wishes, Lindsay
Hi Paul & Lindsay and HP, Yep I had an email back from Steve a good mate of mine HP got that photo from him... Paul could you take it to a photo shop and see what they can do with it ??? Cheers Tom
Hi Lindsay & Tom, Thanks for the suggestions. Lindsay, I think I have a copy of the "Images of War" magazine you mentioned, I've attached a pic of my issue. Tom, I might give your idea a go mate and see what they can come up with. Thanks for all the ideas and help, it's much appreciated .
Hi Paul, Yes, that's the copy of Images of War! There is a very clever photographic member on WW2 Talk site, as I've seen old photographs that he has amazingly restored and reposted for members. Sorry, but I don't know his name, but if you do decide to have your photograph restored I'm sure other members might know him. Good luck, Lindsay

But I can't remember his "name". I have also written to Dave Brook at "The Eagle" to see if he has anything that might help........

Try ukpressonline - Home Thanks for the link mate and also for having a go at the picture. I spent a couple of hours yesterday afternoon at the British Library Newspaper Archive at Colindale and sadly the only copy of the paper they have would appear to be a "final edition" and the picture isn't in it. All the best, Paul.............
Paul - they seem to have a research service for people lking for a particulat article of picture - reates don't seem too unreasonable. 48 hour personal access is only about £5 - find it (? page 4) increase scren zoon and press Prt SC key to capture. Best of luck with that. Brian
Hi all, Thought I'd "update" the thread. I've been in touch with the very helpful Dave Brook (thanks Lindsay ) and he has managed to locate for me a copy of the Eagle magazine in which the pictures appeared. Many thanks once again to all the members who have been so helpful with this.
