Just joined as I have a photo or two that I wonder if people can recognise people on as the images are quite clear which I will post. I am writing a book on the loss of HMS Oswald in 1940, the Court of Inquiry of its Comanding Officer held in 1946 and the questionable legality of the verdict. Various crew members sons and relatives have contacted me over the last five or so years which has been enormously interesting. I am intensly interested in The Battle of the Atlantic, the Escort Groups and the Convoys of which I have a detailed library along with superfluous books I bought along the way to that library! The logistics leading up to and of D-Day. Professionally I am a Master Mariner and started my pre sea training on HMS Worcester on the Thames at Greenhithe in 1955 then served my apprenticeship rising to Chief Officer with BP Tankers of London before coming out to New Zealand in 1974 where I have been ever since joining Union Steamship Company on the Coastal Tankers for 14 years finally finished up as Harbour Master - Port manager of Westport where I have finally retired. My brother John Barnes was in the RN. St Vincent, various aircraft carriers ... Bulwark being one and a cruiser ... the Sheffield. Thats enough for now.
Welcome to the forum. Might be better to ask for help in the 'war at sea' section of the forum & leave this thread just to say 'Hello' in.
