Hi everyone, This morning, I visited for the first time the Spitfire Visitor Centre at Hangar 42, Blackpool Airport, which was fantastic, very informative and interesting. Amazing what they can do to build replicas of wartime aircraft, and well worth a visit. More details about the museum are below. Spitfire Visitor Centre Hangar 42 I was chatting to one of the volunteers about Amy Johnson, the famous solo pilot of the 30s who disappeared when her plane crashed in adverse weather on 5th January 1941. She told me her last flight from Prestwick to deliver an Airspeed Oxford plane to RAF Kidlington, in her role as a First Officer of the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) was via RAF Squires Gate, near Blackpool. She stayed overnight with her sister, who lived in Blackpool, before continuing her flight, despite bring advised not to continue due to the poor weather conditions, and as most people know, she never reached her destination. The volunteer also told me they have a restoration project underway to build a replica of an Airspeed Oxford plane to commemorate Amy's endeavours, which they hope to have on display at some stage. Here is a link to the project if anyone is interested. Home - Saving Amy
