    Hi All

Looking for any info on Gunner James Feeney Philip (3053110) who was based in Aberdeen, possibly Beach Pavillion, with the 427th Battery 59th Searchlight unit

He was killed by a Landmine on 1st November 1942 North of Aberdeen. along with a girl.

Interested if anybody has any war diary entries, or any other info about the unit in Aberdeen.

    Thanks

His service number was issued by the Royal Scots Regiment.
    3044001 - 3122000 Royal Scots
Army Numbers - British Army Numbers of WW2

UK Army Roll of Honour 1939-1945 confirms this:
    Name: James Philp
    Given Initials: J F
    Rank: Gunner
    Death Date: 1 Nov 1942
    Number: 3053110
    Birth Place: Edinburgh
    Residence: Edinburgh
Regiment at Enlistment: Royal Scots (Royal Regiment) (Queen's Edinburgh Royal Scots) RA
    Branch at Enlistment: Royal Artillery
    Theatre of War: United Kingdom
    Regiment at Death: Royal Artillery
    Branch at Death: Royal Artillery

It maybe that he also served in the Royal Engineers, as 59th Searchlight Regiment was converted from RE to RA in 1938.

I would also expect that as a civilian was killed there would have been an inquest, which would have been reported in the local papers & the records of the inquest itself may survive at the Aberdeen Archives.
