    Hi all,

    I'm new to the site.
I have managed to get hold of my grandad's service and pay book. I have found his army number 2619259. However it isn't listed on here? any suggestions?

    Regards

    Gareth

Hi Gareth - The member who started this thread doesn't post on here anymore. You could add his details if you wish in the same format as others-Number, Rank, Name and Battalions etc.

To further your research now you know his units you should consider his units war diaries as the next port of call to find out what they were doing on a day to day basis.

    Cheers
    Andy

Battalion Diaries for WW2 are held at the National Archives in London-You can either view or copy them yourself or if you are too far away I offer forum members a copying service to help fund my 1940 research.

I have just found some details about my Grandad. Leslie Wilkinson 2621039. served in guards from 17-6-1943 until 02-09-1944 when he then transfered to the royal signals.
Served in North Africa and on his service records has a note " country CMF 03-09-1944/21-06-1945" (I dont know what that means)

Hi, just found my dad Christopher Bassett on this roll, he was - 2623081 Guardsman BASSETT C. E. T. and also I think his friend that he sometimes spoke of that was killed during the war is also on the roll just below my dad's name - 2623088 Guardsman HARMAN Frank Leslie 6th Battalion Grenadier Guards. My dad died in 2008 aged 86, so he was one of the lucky ones who went on to live a full life. I know he was in the battle of Anzio. He was also taken POW three times and was in the camp Stalag X1A.

    Hello,
Please add my late uncle to the rolls, his name was Guardsman Wilfred Birch, 2620938 and served in the 5th battalion Grenadier Guards. He was born in Birmingham on June 10 1907 and enlisted on August 8 1940. Wilfred died in 1972.
Thank you for taking the time to compile these lists.
