I finally got Volume 1 of their History yesterday.
Lots of info in there & a superb map of their route into Nijmegen.
I'm a bit busy at the moment but I will get it posted here for you soon.

I saved a few quid by getting each volume from a different bookseller rather than the two volumes together.
I post the info & map tomorrow , FJ.

    Owen,

How did you manage to achieve the quality of reproduction ? Are they photographs of the text?

    Regards

    Harry.

I wonder what the 'baby French Tank' on P.139 might be... Chenilette? FT17?

No mate, it's just mentioned in the text above. I can only speculate on such limited detail.

I've just finished reading a lot about them in this book, some rather good pictures too!
    Market Garden

There's a personal account from Lt. Col. Moore, Alan Moorehead of the Daily Express, Bill Down of the CBS News and Lt. Prescott of 2nd Grenadier Guards.

Plus all the usual photo's and maps.

    Cheers

Hi Commando - what's your interest in the GG at Nijmegen?

Do you have the Guards Armoured Division divisional history - that is pretty good on this period?

Thanks both of you. I do have the Then and Now Books 'MG'. Its indead a great book. Lots of photo's also.
I have also the battlefield tour book called 'Nijmegen' by Tim Saunders', A bridge to far as well one of the spare books published in Dutch about the battle called 'Als Sterren aan de Hemel' .
Appart from that posted here I have no other books .

Paul, my interest is foccussed on the battle in Nijmegen town itself and the battle for the bridges from the German point of view, but as you will understand to get a good idea of the battle you have to research both sides.
Problemm is that most Regimental history books are expensive and for most books only a few pages are of my interest, so if anyone could help me with those pages from the books they have this will save me a lot of money and time.
The money saved will ofcourse be used for other things (arial photographs, documents from Dutch and German archives etc...). So if anyone can help with any source what so ever it will be most welcome.

Regarding the 1st and 2nd Grenadier Guards anything about their action at Nijmegen will be most welcome.

I was also wondering if someone has the complete accounts of Captein Neville ? A lot of his story is published in Saunders book, but I am wondering if this is only a part of it.

Hi Peter - I will see what I can do with the Guards Armoured history, but probably won't get a chance for a couple of weeks.

Are planning a book on the fighting in Nijmegen; would be nice to see a publication about OMG that wasnn't just about Arnhem!

Thanks Paul !!! I think that a good book about Nijmegen (German side, Brittish, US, Dutch) will be most welcome.
Its complex as there is little written in the past so there are not so many reference books to hang on to.

Gotthard, sorry to say but Kershaws book is rubbish !

I think Kershaw had a lot of info but did not do a good research about it and wrote everything down from his sources without checking them first.

Fair enough on that!! :D Didnt realise that and you do learn something new every day! But can you recommend any other books on the German side then?

There are no books written about Nijmegen from the German point of view...

For the role of 10 SS there is only one good books:-

    Tieke: Im Feuersturm letzter kriegsjahre

About Arnhem you can alsu use above book and that of Herbert Fürbringer: 9.SS Panzer Division

Another great book telling the story about Arnhem (maybe the best published) from both sides is

    Bauer:- 'The battle of Arnhem'

This books goes not in personal accounts but gives the best inside view of the operation from the British point of view and the German reaction. Its based on the information collected by Mr. Boerree, one of the first men researching the battle.
Boerre did a great job and I think that you can almost write a book about Arnhem not mentioning his name as a source.
I have some maps copied from the archives (known as collection Boerree). Wonderfull stuff, very detailed.
The book was published in the early 1960's but his conclusion still stands.
He was the first (and almost the only) who did also research the german side of the battle.

    Try Eurobuch.com
You can order the book of Bauer already for 1 dollar. make shure its the English edition because it was also published in Dutch.
