    Hello,
I am looking to find my great uncle on behalf of my mother, he was a member of the DLI and was killed in action in France.

His name was Johnny Hughes, possibly Jonathan.

I have found a GH Hughes while looking through the forum but I don't think the initials match, if anyone finds a gravestone for him or has one, please let me know.

    hello and welcome
Why do you suggest he served with the DLI
do you have any further info photos etc
    what area did he live
do you have date of birth?

once you have found date of birth and confirmed he was killed then you can apply for his service records

Get a copy of military service records

There is only 1 HUGHES on the CWGC site listed in DLI.
    Different intials as you say.
Find War Dead | Search Results | CWGC

Edit. Maybe enlisted into DLI but transfered to another Regiment.
Check CWGC for him & see if number fits into DLI block.

Welcome to the forum . As Clive has said any reason to think he was DLI when he was killed ? In WW2 there were no `Hughes` apart from George Henry Hughes who died with the 2nd DLI at St Venant in France in May 1940 . Theres no other Hughes of any initial `died` or `killed` with the DLI in WW2 so you will not find a headstone for one, sorry.

WW1 has seven "J` Hughes killed with the DLI in France? More information will be required to narrow this one down. Excellent advice from Clive re-service records if you have nothing further you could share?
