  1. in the graveyard of Ressegem (Belgium) there is a humble anonymous concrete cross. the local people say that it was the grave of an Brith pilot.

Bud there is no witness at all of a plane crash in that period (16-19 of may 1940). Possibly the cross is related to the dead of war hero Patrick Gifford.

Squadron-Leader Patrick Gifford, Royal Air Force numberr 90118, was shot down np 16 mei 1940, in Hamme-Mille near Leuven. heavily wounded he was probably transported by the retreating Britih troops the secons Lincolns?). possibly he died under way in Ressegem and was burried over there in a provisional grave. Later the remains were trasnported to the graveyard of Heverlee where he and his plane was shot down.
Unfortunately the cross doesn't carry a name any more and in the local archives of the Town nor in the archive of the parish any trace can be found.
Is there any one who can help me to solve this mystery?
