Hi Diane, I think I'm being misunderstood. I was referring to doing cemetery searches. Individuals are listed but if you search for someone by cemetery only and they are the only person buried the cemetery it doesn't show up on the list in CWGC's website. Ok just tried Notty Ash and it showed up-I suggest you all speak to Geoff as I'm obviously talking out of my hoop again Cheers
Andy Sorry still don't quite understand. I did a cemetery search on Cwgc site for Knotty Ash - who could forget a name like that? It brought up :- 2 choices one of which has 10 burials the other 1 burial 1 KNOTTY ASH (ST. JOHN) CHURCHYARD United Kingdom Lancashire 2 ROSTREVOR (KNOTTY ASH) CEMETERY United Kingdom County Down Am I still searching differently to you? As far as I understand their search engine even brings up partial results ... so put in part of a name and it'll bring up all names that include that ie Oven = Eindhoven and Coventry. D

Sorry for bad English, I am still learning best Regards Michael Please do show you battle field finds. I would also like to hear about the German side of the battles as I do not know very much about this. No need to apologise about your English. It is better than most forum members German (me included)! As you can see from my avatar picture, my father was a Gordon and was in the BEF in 1940 He did not talk about his time in the war and I did not ask him, so I do not know very much about this. Your thoughts and comments are most welcome. best wishes Andy
Great find. Does it say who Duncan releived and who received the Military Cross (on the next page). On a side note I'm sure I wote or read something this month about a 2 Lt. Duncan.

I'm assuming this is him but some of the info is a bit strange: The National Archives | DocumentsOnline | Image Details Its dated 1946 which would suggest he or who recommended him was a PoW but not sure about the Royal Marine connection.
There are some most unpleasant undertones in that book excerpt, aren't there ? Owen refers earlier to Duncan relieving a Platoon Sergeant-Major. This latest piece makes it sound as if he shouldn't have been absent and then seems to wonder how he managed to get away later ? My reading is that it certainly doesn't relate to 2nd Lieutenant Gall. The writer seems to be avoiding naming the PSM.
Rich, I agree Gall and the other(?) are two different people. It would be interesting to find out who was releived though. It must be a senior or officer.
Dam it...There is two PSM's awarded a MM in 1940. I suspect reading them may shed some light on them. I've put the Bn's diary down as a priority on my list. The National Archives | DocumentsOnline | Search Results=*
I think it was Charles Fullerton. He was PSM (OC) D Company and escaped through the South of France to Barcelona.
The War Diary states he was with D Coy when he was killed. From WO 167/746 5 Gordon Highlanders 1940 Jan.-May:
