Afternoon, I've done plenty of reading over the years, predominantly around specific units and actions etc, however, in trying to understand the types of work my grandfather undertook, I've realised that I know more around unit history, rather than the overall doctrine within the British Army during the Second World War. I'm looking for recommendations for books/online reading for good overviews for how the British army worked in various levels and how the communications worked between those levels. For example, how far were the different HQ's from each other, how was information collected and passed back between them, how was it collated and how did that factor in to the planning of work.
