German SIGINT in the Desert Campaign

Due to my current research into one battle, yes @ Deir el Shein, in the Desert Campaign I have looked at the intelligence aspects for both sides and reminded myself of the reported German success with SIGINT. The topic does appear in a couple of threads (linked at the end) and I have not posted my notes on SIGINT for both sides.

The title is from the British Intelligence Corps Museum, in an online 2015 article and is a good summary of what happened, in particular the role of 621 Company (no threads here on them, just mentions), led by Captain Seebohm or Seeboehm (both used in the linked article and just mentions here) until he died from his wounds on 10/7/1942 incurred when the (2/24 Infantry Battalion) Australians raided (actually part of larger operation) his forward position, 600m from the front line, defended by Italian soldiers who exited.

How good was SIGINT for Rommel? This is an illustration:
The focus is on the US Military Attache Col. Fellers in Cairo. From 2006: Intercepted Communications, A Secret Ear for the Desert Fox - September '96 World War II Feature

There are a good number of threads here on Colonel Fellers.

Other threads: For the wider context of German intelligence via a talk @ BP in 2021: Germany’s World War Two Codebreakers: BP Talk 18/8/2021

Then a brief sentence in a 2004 thread:
    From: Montgomery And El-alamein

(Couple of small corrections made to this post after Andreas's post).

    Thanks for this.

A bit more on Bonner Fellers: The Good Source – Axis access to US Army Communications

It is important to note that Bonner Fellers was an Italian success, and that beyond that, the Italian SIM also conducted decrypting activities. AFAICT intelligence was shared between the German and Italian commands.

Seebohm (correct spelling) and his unit were overrun during the 30 Corps offensive that also struck Sabratha division, it was not just a raid. More detail here: https://search.informit.org/doi/pdf/10.3316/ielapa.585042161980695

    All the best

It's probably helpful to see a report by Bonner Fellers.
