I wasn't sure if this was an Allies only forum, My situation is probably not unique, One of my grandfathers was an American GI and the other an officer in the Werhmacht. My german grandfather was shot and captured by the Russians, at some point the Red Cross got him released. Does any one know if there are other avenues to find information other than the Red Cross? I appreciate all and any input!

About Wehrmacht officers you can try at least two sources Bundes Archiv Berlin and Military Archives Freiburg/Germany. I think their WEB sites are both in German and English. If you need help, let me know.

    Hello,

Any German POW who ended up in the gulag was interrogated by the Americans or British when they were released in the 50s.

If your Wehrmacht grand dad was in this category (hundreds of thousands of files survive) you can look him up. These 100 odd files from Operation Wringer are just a small example of the 300,000 which survive.

    Regards,

    Dave
