I have recently just seen that my great uncles medal where up for sale on ebay, i am quite astounded really, in more ways than one.

132 Glamorgan Yeomanry Royal Artillery KIA Monte Cassino Italy WW2 Medal Group | eBay UK

I am very sad to see that my posts/pictures where screenshot and used to help the listing sell and not even a simple message on any platform to tell me they where for sale.

I have contacted the seller and hoping i can find out who the buyer was.

If they fall into anyone's hand on here, please can you let me know as soon as possible

    Many thanks

That sort of behaviour is quite common.

    Hi Peter,
Sorry to hear about the medals. Did you manage to track them down? In other news, George lived at my house - 458 Manchester Road, Heaton Chapel, Stockport. SK4 5DL. My late Grandmother owned the house where I currently live and bought it in the 1960s. I'm wondering if you have any photos or any other information of your family at my address or in the area?

You'd always be welcome for a cup-of-tea at my house if you like. I'd love to print a picture of George and display it somewhere in my house in his honour if that's ok with you? Such a shame that they died so young defending our country.

    Take care,

    Jason

    Hi Jason,

Unfortunately, i am still waiting to hear an update from the Ebay seller.

Wow!, how did you know about George living at yours/Grandmothers address?

Sadly, my Nana has just passed recently who used to write to her aunty who lived in Stockport (I think her name was Dot and her Husband was called Sid who was in the RAF). So unless something pops up somewhere down the line, I don’t have anything relating to the address.

But please feel free to print and place a picture of George up in your house, there is something very fitting knowing he will be back home in some sort of way.

My work takes me all over the country, so If I am ever over your way, I will take you up on the cup of tea offer.

    Many thanks

Hi Peter, Ah too bad about the medals!

Totally forgot to attach this article (below). I searched my address in the newspaper archive website a few months back and George's name came up. Then a few nights ago I ran the article through AI and it brought me to your thread here. So I signed up to see your posts. Really fascinating what you've managed to find out.

Yeah we'll put George up in our new kitchen with our dedicated local history area. I'll take a photo at some point and post it here. Yeah you're always welcome for a cuppa.

Do you happen to know the names of George's siblings or parents or anything? No worries if not and sorry to hear about the passing of your nan.
    Best wishes.
    Jason

    Hi Jason,

I will not stop requesting information regarding George’s medals whereabouts until they are back in the family where they belong.

George had a brother, James William Smith, who was my Great Grandad.

Their parents were James Thomas Smith & Sarah Jane Smith.

James would go on to meet my Great Nana Lilian (from Middlesbrough) during the war and that is how my family ended up here.

George and James started the war in the Cheshire regiment, however, they would end up in different regiments albeit, both fighting in Italy.

I can only imagine how many precious memories your house holds of the Smiths.

I have attached a picture of my Grandad James, George’s burial location and me paying my respects to George during a tour to Cassino in 2024.

    Thanks

    Peter

    Hi Peter,

I found the following information where your family lived at 152 Old Road, Stalybridge, Stockport C.B. Cheshire - before moving to Heaton Chapel (458 Manchester Road - my current house).

I'm trying to identify the exact year they moved here and attempting to document as many people as possible who have lived at my house so I can try to find out some of their stories. Good that I've got a more complete picture of George's siblings and parents. I'll keep you updated. Thanks for the info you provided. It did help me with my search. Let me know if you have any other leads.

    Best wishes pal,

    Jason

    Hi,

You may already be aware that his service record is available at UK National Archives -

    https://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C18964088

You can apply to have it by providing proof of death just attach a copy of the CWGC page above.

As it’s a relative best to choose the full file option so you get B103 forms to see his movements.

BTW I appreciate he is wearing a Cheshire regiment cap badge in the attached photo but his army service number suggests he first joined the army in a RA unit.
