one of the commanding officers Captain Dubrell is reported for an execution of one of his soldiers. This followed the shooting of one of another French soldier by what was first believed to be a local German.
Dubrell first investigated the scene and believed the young German woman Theresia S. having seen a dark colored soldier running away from the scene immidiately following the shots.
Both men were buried in the village.

Strange to me, but does anyone have similar stories?

    Dave,

the tanks came from the west and in Rupertshofen cleared the school and the town hall for their troops and officers. A note in French and German was issued and given too every house owner. Few men were around. Still the few men aged 50 -60had to report to the Chief in command. If their military documents showed their involvement in WW1 and 2 in France, they were arrested and had a hard time.
At night nobody was allowed outside. The French troops surged every house for weapons.Sometimes a whip was used and men and women had to do ridiculous work. They also asked for money , in total the Burgomaster had to collect !00.000 Reichsmark. One farmer had to ask relatives in a village some 30 kilometers away to bring money or golden rings etc.
A French doctor testified that the bullet was shot from a French weapon.

On the other side their where reports were a French officer lived in a German house. The man was in Berlin, the wife and two young girls were under his protection and two soldiersfrom Morocco were outside the villa doing an excellent job.
In these days a lot of forced lab our was st free, but these men were feared by German woman and girls.
So, to have a French officer in the house was fantastic.
I am so glad to have very close French friends today - As per my motto Yesterday enemies, today friends.

    Stefan.
