Huh..........there is that British v. American vernacular conflict again. "Chaps" here in the States means something totally different.

Yes chaps in the states can mean one of two things I suppose....One whereby is a state of health, much like joggers nipple, but in Americas case...cowboys bum.
The other is an ailment I believe suffered by many an American tourist laden with cameras and glasses, white socks and too tight shorts which also are known as Yankee chaps caused by the rubbing together of the thighs on leaving coach at photo opportunities of merit.

I also believe though that they are something cowboys wear? That one I am unsure of...

As a world wide traveller, I can attest our American cousins do have a sense of humour...which will be borne out by the replies to my urqhisms....Once they have worked them out that is...

    But, Gottard:

The Japanese program to develop nuclear weapons was conducted during World War II in response to the perceived threat of its enemies (principally the United States) obtaining such a weapon first and using it against Japan.
The leading figure in the Japanese atomic program was Dr. Yoshio Nishina, a friend of Niels Bohr and a close associate of Albert Einstein. Dr. Nishina was a highly skilled world class physicist with excellent leadership qualities, who co-authored the Klein-Nishina Formula. Nishina had established his own Nuclear Research Laboratory to study high-energy physics in 1931 at Riken Institute (the Institute for Physical and Chemical Research), which had been established in 1917 in Tokyo to promote basic research. Nishina had built his first 26 inch cyclotron in 1936, and another 60 inch 220 ton cyclotron in 1937. In 1938 Japan also purchased a cyclotron from the University of California, Berkeley.

Dude!!.........without the 70's we wouldn't have "Blondie", hello? I lost most of my eyesight watching her videos on MTV.

    And the urqh translation:

YouTube - Blondie - Heart Of Glass

because that video lead to this video

    YouTube - Divinyls - I Touch Myself

quite possibly the finest music video ever produced

Disco was one of the most important genres in music EVER. Without Disco, every genre of House and Dance music would never have existed, endless Rap songs would have had no inspiration, new wave songs of the early 80's would have sounded vastly inferior.Nooooooooo, Disco is magic!
