Figured I would stop by here while the server is switched at WW2F. I am a former Marine Infantry 1986-91 and California National Guard from 1996-2002. I've been reading, collecting, studying WW2 for about the last 30 odd years. My mother liquidated my collection when I joined the Marines. My step dad was 36th ID (5th & 7th Armies) during WW2. My Mother's Dad and several aunts built ships/ subs in Benicia during the war. My father's father was captured in North Africa and was immigrated to the POW camp at Camp Beale, Ca. in about 1942-43 (ish) I have been able to find a family member in the military all the way back to the War of 1812. Anyway, I look forward to spending some time here. Hopefully I will avaoid the cooler. Brad
Formerjughead - Your step- dad being in the 36th Div in Sicily and Italy will know something about fighting - especially if he took part at San Pietro as not too many survived that little party - thanks to a real meathead - Gen Mark Clark ! Cheers

Cheers He was in the unit after Sicily and wounded in the Vosages Mts.
Formerjugheaad - The US 36th div didn't go to NWEurope until after Rome fell so he must have been in Italy for a few months for the Garigliano and Cassino battles - which included San Pietro - I believe they went over to the Dragoon operation at the South of France in August '44 along with two other American and the four French Divisions leaving Mark Clark's 5th Army very short of manpower....much to his disgust ! Cheers

Cheers He was in a Replacement Depot in Italy and made the landings in Southern France. I'll dig out his DD-214 and post up some dates. Several of his stories don't seem to jibe with his dates of service, they were nevertheless entertaining. He passed in 2003 so it's hard to discern fact from embellishment. Brad
Formerjughead - This is not uncommon as memory does strange things at times - this is why we like to see the service records as they usually tell the correct facts - still he did his fair share in Dragoon and then at the Vosges.. cheers
Must be one of the moderators from here floating about; I be just a flunky in this here forum. If you go back far enough, you will see that I have enjoyed the cozy confines of the Glasshouse* (the cooler) for a short period back in 2007. Try as they might, they could not run this Septic off. *British Army term for the brig.

That does it, I've already started ordering the materials (tenting, concertina wire, field kitchens, cots, blankets, portapotties, etc) for the refugee transit camp for all the WW2F Tired, Poor, Huddled Masses that stop over here. Hiya Brad! Pull up a chair! Smoke-Free, maybe not, but Idiot-Free, for certain! :GroupHug:

Hiya Brad! Pull up a chair! Smoke-Free, maybe not, but Idiot-Free, for certain! :GroupHug: I was thinking about kicking things off with a "What if ?" Nazi Zombies defended Berlin would they vote Republican or Democrat? and what kind of weapon would they use in the voting booths? I just couldn't find any articles worth cutting and pasting to plagerize as my own. I am sure there are some "New and Improved Idiots" that will be popping up in here soon enough. Hot rock v. Cold rock: pick up one of each and see wich one you drop the quickest......lol Brad
Brad, you're starting to walk on thin ice already Regarding the rock matter, much that I'll have to grudgingly concede, you do have a point :p
Hello Brad and welcome to the forums. Discussions about Nazi Zombies are sooo last year, but we'll talk about virtually anything else civilised.
Hi FJ, Re: 'What Ifs'. This thread may reassure you on local Standing Orders : http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/general/16647-if-lenin-leader-during-wwii.html ~A
