Well first of all thank you for composing that report. It has enabled me to now find out How my Stepgrandfather, FJ Smith 5248271 of the Worcestershire regiment and then the South Staffs Royal Artillery was deployed and met my grandmother in Castle Douglas. This had untill now been a mystery to me but is now solved.
However the soldiers document I have for him states that he was "Home" from 21.3.40 to 12.3.43 ( presuming he was training). He was then posted to North Africa 13.3.43 to 26.12.43 then to M.E.F ( can anyone explain what this is ?)from27.12.43 to 28.2.44 Then to ( what looks like) Bed A.F. Or ( or Beal. A.F. maybe).from 29.2.44 to 4.11.45 then home from 5.11.45 to 8.2.46.
I would be Grateful if anyone could explain these posting to me.
He also had a brother Owen Smith who was killed in action ( we think crossing the Rhine with Ox and Bucks ) in 1945. I'm trying to research him as well and getting close I think.

Welcome to the forum. Did your stepgrandfather serve with 7th Loyals / 92nd LAA and do you have any other details about him? I may be able to help with further information. Perhaps you could post pictures of his documents.

    Best wishes,

He was Originally worcestershire regiment then I reckon he volounteered for, or was drafted to, the South Staffordshire Royal Artillery. He married my Gran who was from Castle Douglas. I found the above report interesting because it showed how they would have possibly met. I have his army book I'll try and post a picture of his postings list. As for was he with the loyals? I really have no Idea but am thinking of applying to the MOD for his full war record to find out. Any information you guys can supply would be fantastic. He never ever spoke about the war. Quite sad really as he has been in some magnificent parts of the world. Not that he would have had time to enjoy it though :(

Moved posts from this thread as it seems there maybe no connection to unit mentioned.
Thought best if we have a new thread about your Step-Grandad.

OK so the Part that I thought was the " Southstaffs Royal artillery" is actually 2 separate rgiments.
How would I find out his royal artillery history esp which brigade/company and or battles he would have been in or where in the world he would have been posted.

At last I've been able to locate this link, I think I'm too old to cope with anything that changes. I think we can safely say he wasn't posted to Castle Douglas with the 92nd LAA Regt RA where he met your grandmother. That she came from Castle Douglas was purely coincidental.
