    Hello all,

This is the very first port of a newbie, and an English-second-language at that...

Moreover, this is slightly more about the US army than about 21st AG - hope you forgive me...

    Here we go:

    ****

We all know that the US army in Europe suffered from a shortage of manpower late 1944. On Dec 15th or so, Eisenhower ordered that the Communication Zone comb its resources to feed the frontline with reinforcements.

I am looking for this specific order from Eisenhower. Has anyone ever seen it?

    ****

    What I've got so far:

Ruppenthal mentions the point on p.321 of the official history of the logistical support:
    it's here: http://ibiblio.org/h...istics2-11.html

Ruppenthal's source (http://ibiblio.org/h...s2-11.html#fn66) is a letter from Eisenhower to Handy, dated 15 Dec 44.

One can find this letter in the Papers of D.D.Eisenhower (the War Years, volume 4, p. 2347). It says:
What really interested me is to get a feel of what "most stringent orders" mean when issued by the Supreme Commander

A big thanks for your help there !

    Hi Mori
I cannot help directly and not sure what level of research you have done or where you live, but I suggest the following:

    1. (US) Eisenhower Museum and Archives, Abilene, Kansas - quite approachable by email and usually very helpful
    2. (US) NARA College Park RG 331 SHAEF records - will take a long time but can email request and it will be supplied snail mail.
    3. (UK) TNA Kew WO 219/519 - can try ordering doc on-line

    Cheers

Welcome aboard and good luck with your research.

Whilst, hopefully, you will get help from some of our forum members, may I also sugest you place the identical query on our "sister" site ww2f.com where the membership is predominately American.

    Best regards

    Ron
