Just been reading about Father Kun , a member of the Hungarian Arrow Cross. He admitted to at least 500 murders of Jews in Budapest in 1944/45.
He wore his Preist's robes with a pistol belt and holster.
His normal order was "In the name of Christ................FIRE!"
He was finally caught, tried and sentenced to death.
A picture of him with his pistol can be seen here.

If God knew all that was done in his name he would walk away .... there was another "man of God" who led Slovenia - the puppet state which existed when the Nazis took the remainder of Czech Republic - they were even more anti-semetic than the Germans.
His name escapes me at this moment but he was a prime example of a "Christian" if ever there was.

Although going slightly off thread with this man, he was evil and surprise surprise was never prosecuted for crimes he committed.

What's 'Off Topic', Tom? He was a 'Priest'. He personally slaughtered people. Gypsys are people too.

Personally, I see little distinction between the poor souls massacred, be they Russian, Serbian, Jew or Gypsy.

Just that history presents us with some arch pieces of filth, doesn't it? That one really stands out, for me.

Another nice bit of religiously motivated lunacy here. This one personally guided by an archangel .

    Steve,

I only mentioned "Off Thread" as the original post was about another priest, but I totally agree these people were beyond contempt and used the name of the Church to carry out their own agenda.

I certainly did not mean to cause any offence.

Tom; No offence taken, mate. Just wondered how ye thought we were veering.

    In fact, having gone off on my own little tangent, I must tell ye this little story;

Some years ago, I was in a very small 'Chat Room' and having a lovely and eclectic conversation with a handful of people. Someone said something. I must've responded with some mention of " The Camps ". Or, maybe it was about the Croatians treatment of the Serbs, under the auspices of the SS?

Anyway, some bloke in there came back with something along the lines of; " Don't get me started on Those bastards and what they did! Have you ever even heard of Jasenovac?! "

Which I hadn't, frankly. So I scootled off to Google. There I found and read a very detailed account.

Quite honestly? I don't think I've ever really got over it.

    :poppy:

    Jasenovac?

Granik: Granik was a ramp used to unload goods of Sava boats. In winter 1943-44, season agriculture laborers became unemployed, while large transports of new internees arrived and the need for liquidation, in light of the expected Axis defeat, were large. Therefore, "Maks" Luburic devised a plan to utilize the crane as a gallows on which slaughter would be committed, so that the bodies could be dumped into the stream of the flowing river. In the autumn, the Ustase NCO's came in every night for some 20 days, with lists of names of people who were incarcerated in the warehouse, stripped, chained, beaten and then taken to the "Granik", where weights were tied to the wire that was bent on their arms, and their intestines and neck were slashed, and they were thrown into the river with a blow of a blunt tool in the head. The method was later enhanced, so that inmates were tied in pairs, back to back, their bellies were cut before they were tossed into the river alive.

    Never happened of course.

I've just finished reading John Cornwell's 'Hitler's Pope', an account of Eugenio Pacelli's - Pius X11 - ascent through the Vatican hierarchy and his consistent failure to confront or condemn fascism and genocide either in Germany or Croatia.

Cornwell sets out evidence that at local level Croatian Catholic churchmen variously took part in the Ustase slaughter of Orthodox Serbs, Jews, Gypsies and communists or hoped the church would benefit from the enforced conversions which seemed to offer the only escape from a carnage so total that even hardened German soldiers were horrified.

Smudger suggests above that some churchmen subverted their own institution to pursue private agendas...I have to say that to me the distinction seems very blurred.

While I have no intention to get into any further discussion on this topic - I would just mention that Cornwall was not noted as being a friend of the Catholic Church - like many others - but I would advise you to google for - and read "Mit Brenender Sorge" - written by the same Eugenio Pacelli and signed by the ailing PiusXI
    Cheers

Tom, not everything that is done by all 'Catholics' is condoned or even reaches the awareness of the Holy See. I don't think it's necessary to excuse for Pius XI every step of the way. "Mit Brenender Sorge" speaks for itself, plus the other material that comes to light.

For every András Kun burning in the deepest hell there will be a St. Maximilian Kolbe. Forget the chrome and read.

Cornwell rightly praises the Papal Nuncio to Hungary, Monsignor Angelo Rotta, but he fails to explain that a papal nuncio does not act without papal authority, nor does he say what Angelo Rotta did other than mentioning that he 'made frequent representations to cabinet ministers on behalf of the Jews'. You'll find a more balanced account here regarding Angelo Rotta

As for the murderous András Kun, although known as 'Father' Kun (pater Kun), he wasn't a priest. He had been a monk but was thrown out of his order before he joined the Arrow Cross party in 1944; he was hanged in Budapest on 19 September 1945. There is an Arrow Cross propaganda clip here A HOLOKAUSZT MAGYARORSZÁGON Kun appears towards the end getting out of a car.

I've also scanned and attached the relevant pages of what Cornwell says in his rather unbalanced account.
