Hi, I'm not sure what forum thread to post this one on.

I received my grandad's military records. He was in the Royal Artillery then transferred to the Royal Engineers.
There he trained as a barge engineer - I believe this equates to today's role as a marine engineer on boats. barges, tugs etc.

He was part of transportation, IWT (Inland Water Transport) and later was attached to the No 1 IWT Construction and Repair Group at Marchwood (Home) in Southampton.

Before this and after qualifying as a barge engineer he was sent to the POTTW the Port Operating Technical Training Wing in September 1944. The entry (I have attached) states P.O. 4637 does anyone know what this could relate to ?
I read that Marine and Navy ratings were given a pre-fix indicating their port division and sometimes PO was used for Portsmouth and then a 4-6 digit number. However he already had an army service number and was part of RE IWT.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks Rob
