1st Lothians and Border Yeomanry crabs. The rear gun tank tank 'Constable Of Chester' is a HQ tank in C Squadron Did they give any hint of location or do I have to do it the hard way? Is it possible to get a higher resolution scan of the turret number on the rear Sherman? It looks like '73' but...............
I don't know the location mate, original captions including that one are often completely missing or sketchy. KevinT was asking about that same pic a few weeks ago in this thread- http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/general/42540-enhanced-ww2-pics.html#post474708 These references to 1st Lothian crabs appear at a photo-archive site- Go to it here and scroll down to just before halfway, i think they might be photo-reference numbers- Collection: WAR OFFICE SECOND WORLD WAR OFFICIAL COLLECTION | Imperial War Museums
Wreck of the US Liberator 'Lady be Good' in the Nth African desert 380 miles south of Tobruk. It took off from the Benghazi area in 1943 to bomb Naples at night but overshot in the dark on the way back due to navigation error and the crew bailed when fuel ran out, thinking they were still over the Mediterranean. Realising their mistake, they began walking north but died of thirst and hunger, all but one of their bodies were recovered after the war. Firefly, Normandy Jun 44
