Searching through the war diary for the Australian 2/23rd Battalion and came across these newsletters from the El Alamein period. I don't know if they still exist anywhere, but here is what was found in case it is of interest.
Very interesting, thanks for posting Dave. I particularly liked the Diggers Desert Diary. (Try saying that when you've had a few pints) Lesley Edit: typo
Dave Thanks for the post somewhere in my dicuments I have a 1944 copy of the Eight Army News, loved the Diggers Desert Diary
I particularly liked Monty's personal message. Although I have seen it before in typed form in books, that is the first time that I have seen it hand-written and of that date - the Second Battle of El Alamein. When you consider the outcome of the battle and what happened thereafter, Monty's words are almost sage like. Thanks for posting, Dave. Best, Steve.
Thanks all - another thread has just been started on the Diggers Desert Diary for November 1942 http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/55422-diggers-desert-diary-november-1942-not-the-eighth-army-news/?p=646463
I don't know where else to post these photos from the war diary, so this seems a good a place as any. I suppose it was news-worthy for the unit at El Alamein.
