I'm looking to find the serial number of this aircraft, and so gain a positive ID. The photo is of an early B-24 Liberator painted in the Temperate Land Scheme, it is either an LB.30A or LB.30B. It's not a MkI as that designation was given to the LB.30B's that were modified to Coastal Command configuration, they were fitted with ASV and forward firing 20mm cannon, they were also painted in the Temperate Sea Scheme. I woundered if any of you guys have come accross this photo when searching the web and could give me a lead as to it's serial number.
Hi Kyt. Thanks for the reply but that web site is wrong, definitely not a MkI, in fact there are quite a few mistakes on that page. I've been researching the B-24 in Coastal Command service for over 20 years now and have much info on the early Liberators but the ID of this one escapes me. Regards PC
Hi PC, you're right - I knew I'd seen the picture before on wiki but it seems that a number of other forums dispute the caption as well. Sorry. K
Beyond an LB-30, I'm afraid I can't help you PC. Will keep an eye out for the pic though. Never seen that one before.
Thanks both K, it's a natural assumption that most people make, if it's an early Lib then it's a MkI, having said that, the LB.30A and LB.30B look the same which makes it more difficult to ID. I have the serials for all of them, it's just a matter of putting the right one to this. Regards PC
