Spitfire wreck. Malo les Bains.
Photos from epay
I don`t think it is one of the blockships.
1st photo is of ss Edvard Nissen, next to the east mole.
These blockships were: SS Westcove (sunk 3 June), SS Holland (3 June), HMS Env. Nissan (3 June), SS Gurko (4 June) sunk outside Dunkirk, and SS Pacifico (4 June)
One other sunken ship in two photos. ID of the ship not known.
One more that came in the post. Germans take fuel from a boat. Strathaird Lifeboat ? might have come from the P&O ship as tugs towed lifeboats over from the UK. Cross Keys on truck 151905 or L51905.
One more. Humbers and two with trucks with Cross Keys [ 2nd Infantry Div ]. De Panne.
Ref the ships in post 666. I'm now very confident they are the block ships sent over to be sunk in the harbour entrance. I can also give you the names of them when I have time if interested.
photo from my collection.
The block ships were: SS Westcove (sunk 3 June), SS Holland (3 June), HMS Env. Nissan (3 June), SS Gurko (4 June), and SS Pacifico (4 June). The ship in post 666 is not a block ship, no ID for it.
Some more from my collection.
SS holland 1st photo. Gourko sunk before reaching Dunkirk harbour by a mine, 2nd photo.
More info on Operation CK. Blocking of Dunkirk Harbour M.011431/40 if any one has this file.
Found one more block ship SS Moyle. no photo or info apart from it was sunk as a block ship at Dunkirk.
Burnt out barge with a Morris CDSW by the side. Can any one ID the barge.
Where is this please? My father was a Bofors Tractor driver he used his tractor to drag trucks into position to make a jetty at Bray Dunes. His was the last vehicle (Morris CDSW) to go into the line. Before he was evacuated (with dry feet) that night. The last thing he did when he left his tractor was to remove the Tax Disc, which I still have.
Nice to hear stories like this and tax disc a great link to the past , see the reg.no. is RMP824.
I have a lot of pics of CDSW's on beach but these look like likely candidates.
I think the photo is near De Panne
What unit is AOS 20 with white bar above ? ( seen on two or three of trucks above )
1 Corps. 52 Light AA Regiment.
From Andrews book on Vehicle Markings of the BEF.
