Although not a military medal, it was issued by the Dunkirk Authorities, all those who were involved in the evacuation could apply for this medal, and their names listed in a Book of Gold, this book is supposed to be kept in France, I am trying located it, can anyone confirm where it is kept.

I did reply to your other post.

Les, it may well be in the Town Hall in Dunkirk if it exists.

Hi Rock and welcome to the forum.

Your first port of call should be his Service Records. They will tell you if he was in France during 1940 and for how long.

If he was in Cherbourg he wouldn't be entitled to the Dunkirk Medal.
