    My father L/Bdr Eric West, 140 Field Rgt RA was captured near Cassel on 31st May 1940 and spent the war as a POW.

    Most of his captivity was spent at Arbeitskommando E72, the Hohenzollern coal mine in Beuthen, Upper Silesia (now Bytom, Poland). The mine was one of the largest and most efficient in Silesia. During the years 1933-40 it was owned by the aristocratic Schaffgotsch family. They published a fortnightly works newsletter Schaffgotsch Werks-Zeitung which has now been digitised here: Silesian Digital Library

    It is an absolutely fascinating record of the Nazi domination of Germany, the invasion of Poland and the 1940 invasion of France from a German perspective. Here's a couple of images from the 1940 newsletters:
