The Fairey gannet was always a favourite aeroplane of mine when young as it was so huge for what appeared to be a three seater single engined plane with contra rotating propellers.

I soon read that it had a twin engine, but had never seen one until yesterday when I revisited old RAF Gatow, the Luftwaffen Museum.

There has always been a static Gannet on display, but in one of the hangers was a new exhibit, the twin engine Mamba.

I hope that it is of interest to othe like minded members.

It looked even bigger when landing on a light fleet carrier - aka HMAS Sydney without any deck angling, then had to get the aircraft down fast and in the right spot or else the barrier looked quite quickly. First class pilots those blokes

The Australian and Germans really liked these machines so that speaks volumes for the planes performance.

    Tom,
Please forgive an old mind. I stuffed it. Gannets were on the Melbourne not the Sydney. Sydney carried Fireflies and, I think, Sea Furies. A marvellous aircraft, there
    is one in the AWM.

Whilst at the museum I took some other museum fliers, one of which is called Aeronauticum and is a museum dedicated to Airships and naval aviation.

They also have a Fairey Gannet exhibit:D

    Google Translate

It looks an interesting museum and I would like to visit when next in the area.

    Regards
