On Wednesday afternoon, 31 October 2012 (All Hallows Eve), Whitehaven library are having a session about local boggles and beasties. As I understand it, the main story related will be about 'The Muncaster Boggle'. Evidently, he, she or it was keeping out of your way while you were at Muncaster Castle! As you may know there is also supposed to be a 'Haunting White Lady' at Carlisle Castle (especially in Alma Block) ......? Gage: The incident at the pub you mentioned happened at The Hollybush pub in Uttoxeter, Derbyshire in 1967. Jack Currie wrote about it in his book, "Echoes in the Air." (A chronicle of aeronautical ghost stories). The story beggars belief but is fascinating at the same time.
Going down to the basement in an old pub to use the toilets, the hair stood up on my skin and I got a feeling of dread. I have never been to the toilet so fast! The bar man afterwards said that the basement was haunted but I am sure all old inns would have a resident ghost. I still do not believe they exist.
Poor quality, but watchable - and Jack Currie's voice is all you really need: https://www.facebook.com/gordon.kerr.5/videos/10206914998967716/
From my Blog Circa 1960 Farnborough. Ghost? 16 Para OFP was located in the old Officers Mess of Elles Barracks. The Company office was in the former dining hall. There was not enough manpower to mount a guard so the only duty we had was to man the phone in the office overnight, a duty that only came around every two weeks or so. On my first duty I set up a safari bed and sleeping bag by the phone then had to walk the full length of the room to turn off the lights, the switch being at the far end. In the early hours I was woken suddenly, the hairs standing up on my neck. Someone or something was in the room. "Ok lads stop mucking about" I called, thinking I was being set up. But on turning on the light (after fearfully walking down the room) nobody was about. I spent the rest of the night sleeping fitfully with bad dreams and an oppressive sense of fear. Next morning I went across for breakfast. (We shared a mess hall with 63 Coy RCT, or was it RASC?) "What sort of night did you have Burney" one of the lads asked. You B######s, it was you", I shouted. But no they said. No newcomer was ever warned about the duty but everybody had the same experience. Nothing was ever seen but just this feeling of something malignant there. My following duties were always unpleasant but never as bad as that first night. (I always kept the light on.) Elles barracks is now demolished and a trading estate stands there. I wonder if some corner of a DIY store feels a bit strange. Ghost? I don’t know but weird, yes.
Since posting this I found out there were two Canadian Airmen called Harold buried in the local cemetery (Bassingbourn). A coincidence...perhaps. Now living at yet another WW2 airfield. No spooky tales so far!
Found this: From: The Argus (Melbourne): 05 Nov 1951 "Headless Nazi Haunts Ship" MEMBERS of the crew claim that the ghost of a' headless Nazi soldier in uniform walks the decks of the Norwegian ship Templar at night. The ghost is seen most often in the sick bay and forecastle, they say. It has spoken to them in the dead of night, then turned and marched away to the nearest, cabin. At other times the crew have heard rattling noises, in various parts of the ship, which is in Newcastle harbor (sic). They are reluctant to visit some parts of the vessel at night. First Mate Folkman said that the crew often showed fear when ordered to the sick bay or the forecastle. "They say they have seen a headless ghost, but I won't believe it until I see the ghost," he said. "Sailors at sea are very superstitious." But Bosun Johansin said that he saw the ghost a few months ago while sleeping in the sick bay. "I heard a German voice, and then a headless soldier walked into the sick bay from the bathroom," he said. Johansin said the ghost was that of one of the Germans who died aboard the ship during the war. The Germans seized the Templar when they overran Norway during the war, and used the ship for minelaying. 05 Nov 1951 - "Headless Nazi haunts ship" - Trove

If you read post No 6 of an old thread of mine you will read about a very chilling experience I and several others had at Buchenwald Concentration Camp. A Hero. The Sole Surviving agent from all special Service prisoners at Buchenwald The Padre and I looked around and we all formed the opinion that some evil presence was still there and we all came out. A most sobering moment for us all. Regards Tom
More reports of a ghost plane being sighted in Derbyshire have emerged after an eyewitness claimed she saw a large, silent aircraft flying towards her, before it disappeared completely. There have consistently been reports of ghost planes in Derbyshire, with people often identifying the plane as a Douglas Dakota - once flown by the RAF.
