Hi Just wondering if anyone has any good sources of info regarding the Devil’s Porridge/HM Factory Gretna (other than the museum and Google/Wikipedia)? My great granny worked there and was awarded the BEM for services but we’re struggling to find any records or other more personal information. Many thanks Alan Watson
This book was published in 2017. The Gretna Girls: The WW1 munitions women who made the Devil’s https://www.amazon.co.uk/Gretna-Girls-munitions-Devils-Porridge/dp/147362004X
Devil's Porridge on Twatter: https://twitter.com/Devils_Porridge?s=20 They represent the museum, but put out a few interesting factory-specific nuggets, among what seems a more overt interest in industrial & feminist history.
Not to overlook that there was "sister" factory just over the border at Longtown and I expect there was movement between the two (not my area of knowledge). There are a few threads on Longtown; more than on Gretna. Does a BEM award get a citation? Medals not my interest.
Have a read through some of these when TNA re opens Search results: hm factory gretna | The National Archives TD
