I'm so excited! Received my Dad's Service Record today which I applied for in June!
He was a Gunner in the Royal Artillery but on Merchant Ships ( DEMS- Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships).
There are 2 pages showing ships he sailed on with dates he joined and dates he was discharged from each including the ship on which he was when a torpedo hit and the Naval vessel that picked him up! In 1945 there is an entry right at the end which may be a Depot or a ship but a Google search reveals nothing. It just states RAAOL. Can anyone enlighten me please?

You are indeed very lucky that you have received his maritime card with his records - many have not survived.

    I echo Hugh's comment 110%!!

I applied for info waaaay back in 1982 for my grandfather - no service records permitted back then, just a quick overview. Luckily this actually included the ships for his DEMS service (and very little else), however, when I received the actual service records a couple of years ago, those maritime cards were notably absent and my follow-up to request them, gained no response at all.

Look forward to an upload from you as well. :)
