I found this via google, it appears that you could be a member of the Royal Signals and have earned your wings - therefore a possible connection of Ronald Shaw and the Para wings his son has ? any comments or opinions very welcome.

Yes if you were Royal Signals and assigned to a Para HQ or battalion you would need to be jump qualified to participate in exercises and operations. Of course if you were with an airlanding unit (gliders) wings wouldn't be entirely necessary. It is quite complex on how the Signallers were distributed through out a Division. They would have been organised by their own HQ.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised to learn that Ronald Shaw joined up with a Parachute unit post war. You have to remember as well he was a Driver with the Royal Corps of Signals post war which may or may not throw a wrinkle into the matter.

    Regards ...

Have sent a message to the son (via my friend) suggesting he applies for his dads records, have also asked to check that he gave my friend all the Information he has re his dad.
Whilst I took this request on as a favour to a friend i am becoming very Interested myself re Ronald Shaws service.
