Just got a new app for mobile phone. It has cemetery search function and shows nearest cemetery on map. . It gives directions to the cemetery, also shows No of casualties & a bit about the cemetery. It is available from I Tunes & Google Play Store free. Cheers Paul
CWGC have updated their FB page Commonwealth War Graves Commission We've made a brand new CWGC War Graves App which is freely available for smartphone and tablet users to download from: www.cwgc.org/app The CWGC War Graves app is a great app for anyone planning a trip to the war cemeteries, for those just curious to find war graves near them, or for those who want to remember the 1.7 million Commonwealth servicemen and women who died in the two world wars. Simple to use, the CWGC War Graves app allows you to search for war graves at more than 23,000 locations, in 153 countries and makes it easy to find and visit these places of remembrance. Cheers Paui
I don't know if I'm doing it wrong, but when I click on the "Cemeteries Nearby" option all it does is tell me where I am.
It starts with your current location. You have to enlarge map until you see the green cemetery icon, then click on that.and it should bring up Cemetery Details & Route Map. In my case Fremantle Cemetery is the closest & Route Map brings up 3 different routes to the cemetery. Cheers Paul
I've been very lax at following the forums lately, so don't know if this has cropped up. looking for an automated way to sort the 'remembering today' thingy here I pottered onto this : CWGC War Graves App Android, IOS & Windows. Only c.1000 downloads on Android so I assume it's relatively new. Looks quite interesting, particularly as it picks up local non-CWGC cemeteries with CWGC memorials. No links to casualty details yet though? Just number of interred cited. location service probably the most interesting feature, as the CWGC website is always to hand. Quite promising for localised researchers, and maybe school projects etc.
Hello A yes has been http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/55305-cwgc-war-graves-phone-app/ I use it all the time a great tool regards Clive
Hi Adam, Although I do not possess the App. I have been the beneficiary of its powers. I was able find a pre-war WW1 grave at my local cemetery with the help of a stonemason who happened to be in there at the same time and who used the App. with great success. I would never have been able to find the grave without his help, so this could be a very useful tool for our members. Happy New Year. Steve
I've had it for quite awhile now it is great to have if you are out and about searching for headstones. Mike.
I found two cemeteries in Leeds with it including one I was told by someone on here that never had any CWGC casualties in it. My only gripe with it is you have to leave the app and go to CWGC online, find the cemetery on their website to view the actual casualties in the cemetery. A link on the app that took you straight to the details on the website would be the icing in my opinion. I have mentioned it to them and they agreed but nothing has been done yet......Perhaps if members contacted CWGC like me mentioning this it will happen sooner rather than later? I can't wait to use it this year in France and Belgium
is anyone having issues downloading this app or using it have it one phone and it says downloading database then hangs other phone cant even get it downloaded says not available on Apple store regards Clive
