    Hi all,

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but does anyone know where I can get hold of the crew lists for the Kriegsmarine officer candidate entry classes for 1934 and 1935? I'm trying to track down details for Wilhelm Gaul, DoB 13.11.1914.

Any information on either Willi or the crew lists would be very much appreciated.

    Regards

    Adam

Not sure if this is the same person but there is one 'Gaul' listed in the KM Rangliste for 1941. The name is under the rank of Oberleutnant z.See but for some reason his name has been crossed out seemingly with a note added next to it but it is impossible to read.
In the top left corner it states 'noch 1935'.

Is the 'impossible to read' word Luftwaffe? Script with the same general shape appears higher up the page and that appears to read Luftwaffe. Possibly he was transferred?

Just so happens, I have remembered that I have a copy of the 1938 KM Rangliste and he is mentioned as a Leutnant z.See and his entry mentions the Luftwaffe.

Many thanks to all - exactly the sort of information I was after. Just to clarify a few things, Gaul transferred for flight training with the Luftwaffe on 15.10.1937, qualifying both as an observer and pilot. He flew with Küstenfliegergruppen 106 and 906 then on to KG 40 before going back to seaplanes with SAGr 126 and ending the war in Courland after a stint with 2.F/22. With regards to the WW2 awards site, yes that is him, however his birthdate is wrong, it should be 13 NOVEMBER 1914, not September.

    cheers

If you're not aware, there will be a book published - hopefully this year - that covers the air war over the Courland Pocket...
