The RN has closed the CHC with immediate effect. Despite already having been shut throughout COVID no respite has been granted. The collection of electronic equipment based within the RN base of HMS Collingwood near Portsmouth was a valuable research resource with a wide collection of items not just of WW2 vintage. It's location near Portsmouth meant it was largely manned by ex-RN sparkers who had often worked on the kit during their service careers. The plan seems to be that the kit will be boxed up and stored in a disused hangar at Yeovilton with no public access.
The related documents archive will be subsumed into the RN Library so will likely disappear from view for another couple of years and even then be far harder to inspect. Sad times and an insight into how the RN really values its history.
