Revisited: TAC HQ

This thread has clarified the location of Monty's HQ in the second half of March 1945. The location south of Straelen, which was actually in the American sector, also attracted other interested parties. At the beginning of March, the 1st Medical Group had chosen a site just one kilometer to the south, but vacated it at Montgomery's request.

"My father is the soldier in front of Monty (face turned toward the port side of the Higgins boat). I have the actual film of the crossing that I obtained from the Churchill Museum in London. My dad’s story of the crossing was told in the book, The Atlantic Battle and in an episode of the circa 1956 ABC television show, Navy Log, of which I also have a copy. I am well versed in this slice of history as told to me many times by my father (and hero). When asked what Churchill said during the crossing, my dad told me…”he didn’t say much but he did take that big black cigar out of his mouth and spit in the Rhine.” ..."

Funded by the British Information Service, a poster campaign aimed at the French-speaking population, sought to provide a weekly illustrated bulletin of the military situation. The series "One War" aimed to convince the public that the war was on the verge of being won, despite occasional setbacks on specific front lines.



The posters measured 50 cm by 100 cm and each featured 10 photos of the current state of the war. The first four images on this poster depicted developments in March 1945. Once again, the iconic photograph of Churchill is featured. Like a general on his chariot, Churchill traverses the defeated territory — a nod to Xanten’s Roman past.

Hello everyone.

Maybe of interest. I probably happened to be able to buy unique pictures of the Jugendburg Alpen, which were taken during the war. As far as I know. At least, the pictures are unknown in the Alpen archive.

What makes the recording crucial is that the building is camouflaged.

Unfortunately, what was my advantage was once again an album of a fighter wing being sold in parts.

This was supposed to be about Fighter Wing 52, which was only at the airfield for a few days. 29.07-03.08.1940

Even more interesting is the view from the back. I've never seen one before. I showed the pictures to my mother. She got goosebumps. She was there in 1949 on a school trip from completely bombed-out Duisburg. Operation Hurricane.
