Hi all, Can anyone help me please? I am looking for a photo of Charles Wilfrid Scott-Giles at Churchill's funeral. Enquiries so far have come up with no results. I've been in contact with the Churchill archive, searched Getty Images and Life Magazine etc but nothing yet. Charles Wilfried Scott-Giles O.B.E. was Fitzalan Pursuivant Extraordinary and greeted dignitaries at Churchill's funeral. He I attach a photo of him from the back of one of his books. Many thanks.
Pathe have a film of the funeral. Might be worth a look and I think you can buy stills WORLD IN REMEMBRANCE - British Pathé
Scott-Giles ...? As noted in my PM sent to you there's a man greeting dignitaries at St Paul's at about the 2:50 mark of the following Pathe video. After greeting Charles de Gaulle he directs him and others up the steps with an arm gesture. He is clean shaven and appears younger than Scott-Giles in the portrait you show. Selected Originals - World In Remembrance… 1965 For some reason the stills for that don't show up on Pathe? Regards ...
Many thanks both for finding the clips. I believe Scott-Giles was wearing one of those armorial coats, so not man in second clip but very likely one of the men lining the stairs wearing the armorial coats.
Emanuel1940, According to a small biographical piece on a site promoting the book The Wimsey Family he also "... attended the Queen at the State Opening of Parliament and other ceremonial occasions, including the investiture of the Prince of Wales at Caernarfon." Have you tried the The White Lion Society? Regards ...
Emanual Just out of interest, i was at Churchill's funeral (He was the Hon.Colonel of my regiment. the 4th QOH, having previously served in it) and I took the pics below. One of the snaps below, taken from Trafalgar Square, shows officers of the Rgt. carrying his various honours Ron ps More about his funeral here at Comment #7: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/general/13909-churchill-myths.html
Many thanks Ron. It must have been quiet an occasion. I've contacted the White Lion Society Cee, so thank you for that suggestion. All the best.
