C'mon Adam.......having busted me....reinstate me to previous rank and let me reply to my critics.....I think it's arrogant of you to just throw me out of here when I have put in many hours of good work here

In case you have not guessed....this is CHRISTOS speaking......now, a private conversation with Adam and other Mods is not too much to ask.

OK........If I have to go, I would like to wipe out all my work. You are not going to kick me out of here AND keep such things as my "Waffen SS Div History".....you cannot have it both ways.....either I am reinstated to full rank or you wipe all my posts before I leave.....vBulletin will recieve a stinging complaint from me. I think it's the hieght of arrogance for you to classify me as arrogant when you give me no right of reply after ejection, and then won't even discuss your concerns by private message.....So come on Adam....what it to be?

Are we a democracy? Can we have a vote on whether Chris stays or goes?
Chris, will you stand by the decision of your peers?

    What on Earth?!
Christos, I saw you having trouble logging on with your normal ID, then watched you register as Sammy Sparrow & Wendy Darwin.
I have PM'ed you on both of these ID's immediately on registration to ask if there is a logging on problem.

    No reply.

If you contact me via PM (which you have not) I can sort this out and see what your logon problem was. You have been neither 'busted' or 'thrown out' but erratic behaviour like this makes that scenario more and more likely.

Reply to my PM Christos, or send me a new one and tell me what the problem is so I can sort it out.
If you can't do that in a grown up manner then we'll have to take it from there I'm afraid.

    Sort it NOW Christos.
I have pm'ed you and reset your Christos Password.

There will never be any public vote on a membership of this forum, but ridiculous behaviour can be dealt with appropriately.

    Christos mate,

I think the general thought is that you need to chill out a bit. Yes we know that the majority of the younger generation are less educated in this subject than perhaps yours, but do not group everyone together. I am neither ungrateful or any of the other words you used to describe my age group. I am currently serving in the army and of course i feel a deep connection to this time in history hence why i am a member to this site.
I do not want you to go as i feel and so do many of the members i am sure, that you have alot to offer to the forums. Just relax mate, we know how you feel and we know the situation is.

    Regards, Donnie

Something is playing up........I just typed a very long private message to Adam and it was wiped clean, and I then had to relog.....I tire of all this....my time here is coming to an end anyway. You guys just can't keep up, and have got to attack me personally to get a responce....all I can say is, read widely, read a book or article more than once, and don't restrict your information suorces to coventional literature.....some of the very best military history I have ever read has come from magazine contributions by amatuers, or semi-pro journos that dig a little.......I really would like to stick around, but I just can't hack the personal stuff, however nicely it's put....by the way, the only person I have ever called on this internet is called David Grayson, a Silent Hunter 4 player, and he still talks to me on line....yet another myth exploded....get your facts straight , Moderators of all kinds, and stop letting your personal opinions of my personality get in the way of what your'e on the site for....to MODERATE

The reason why Dick Turpin & Lady Godiva were included in the list of mythical people wrongly believed to be real is that, while both existed, it's almost certain that neither carried out the feat for which they were famed. Turpin didn't ride from London to York in under 15 hours in order to get himself an alibi, although another highwayman called John Nevison may earlier have ridden from Kent to York overnight. The sources for Godiva riding naked through the streets of Coventry all come from well after her lifetime so this is probably also a myth. However, the survey was about the existence of people, not the feats for which they are famous, & both of them were real so I think that the survey is wrong in claiming them as mythical.

I strongly object to Holocaust deniers calling themselves revisionists. Revisionism is a necessary & vital part of historical research but claiming that well documented & witnessed events didn't happen isn't revisionism; it's lying. For example, WWI historians who claim that Douglas Haig wasn't, as is commonly believed, a callous & incompetent butcher but was a competent general who did the best that could be expected in very difficult circumstances are revisionists. The WWI equivalent of a Holocaust denier would be somebody who claimed that British casualties on the first day of the Battle of the Somme were less than 10,000 rather than the actual 57,000.

British casualties on 1 July 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme were:
    Killed 19,240
    Missing 2,152
    PoW 585
    Wounded 35,493
    Total 57,470.

10,000 is NOT the casualty figure. I was attempting to show why Holocaust deniers should not be called revisionists by drawing an analogy with an example of true revisionists, namely those who are trying to rehabilitate Haig. The WWI equivalent of a Holocaust denier would be somebody who lied about the known level of casualties, in the same way as Holocaust deniers lie about the number of victims of the Holocaust.

I see what you mean Steve, I'll take a stab at it:
    ??
    • King Arthur – 65% (Uncertain, but there's a case)
    • Sherlock Holmes – 58%
    • Robin Hood – 51% (possibly/likely real)
    • Eleanor Rigby – 47%
    • Mona Lisa -35% (tricky... define 'real')
    • Dick Turpin – 34% (definitely real, but a poorly told legend)
    • Biggles – 33%
    • The Three Musketeers – 17%
    • Lady Godiva – 12% (real)
    • Robinson Crusoe – 5%
    ??

While many are based on 'real' people there are layers of legend over them, perhaps it's not the character they asked about but their respective stories...
I'd like to see the survey now and pin down the actual framing of the questions, can't seem to find it at the mo but this is definitely looking like a pretty shallow bit of sensation stirring (surprise surprise).

Elenor Rigby & Sherlock Holmes I believe may have also been real depending on your definitions, if the writers had used their experiences with a real person to later write and adapt into their work.
