CARNIE, James, Chief Skipper, RNR, (HMD Eddy), killed [ALEXANDRIA (CHATBY) MILITARY AND WAR MEMORIAL CEMETERY]

He is listed as killed on 30th April. naval-history says he was killed onboard HMS Juno. That destroyer was on passage from Malta to Alexandria at this time and it suffered the premature detonation of a depth charge during a submarine hunt on the 1st May. This accident resulted in the deaths of nine crew (three of whom are listed on the 30th April, four on the 1st May and two DOI's on 2nd and 3rd).

So if Chief/Skpr Carnie was onboard the destroyer, it is possible that he was killed by this accident. Any ideas?

    Regards,

(Eddy, O/P) shows his ship to be HMD Eddy but he was on passage in HMS Juno. Not sure why all the others are listed as 30 Apr when, as you say, as does CWGC that four died 1 May.
ADM 358/3864 - Missing personnel HMS Juno explosion 1 May 1941 probably has the details.
