Hello all, I am trying to find more information regarding the Chemical Defence Experimental Stations role from 1939 - 45. I can't seem to find a great deal on the internet and was hoping somebody here would perhaps know. My great grandfather is listed in 1939 as a Major working here. If I have put this in the wrong section I apologise but I can't imagin what happened at the CDES was for public knowledge! Don
Hi Donnie, Winterbourne Gunner in Wiltshire, south of Porton Down. ? see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defence_CBRN_Centre Quote "In 1931 the site became part of the Small Arms School as the Anti-Gas Wing. It would later become an independent entity, in 1939, as the Army Gas School, later Army School of Chemical Warfare." Regards, Mick D.
