I’m not sure if I am in the right place to ask this question but I’m hoping that someone may be able to help. I recently found this capbadge in a box of family ‘bits and bobs’. My family are all from in and around Aberdeen. Those who served in WW1 and WW2 appeared to have been split across the Gordon Highlanders and the Royal Engineers. Finding out the unit may give me a seat point as to whom it may have belonged to. Thank you
BRITISH RAIL EMPLOYEE TRAIN CAP HAT BADGE In 1956 following a 'Grant of Arms' a demi-lion holding a wheel between its paws and rising from a crown was introduced in badge form for caps, and this symbol was displayed above a fishtail style bar badge which was enamelled in the regional colours and lettering to denote ticket collector, porter, guard, foreman or excess, with a 'British Railway' one to cover other grades. Hello Phaedra, Would go along with the railway link as suggested by others: Lions and Wheels (British Railways’ lion emblems, 1949-1964) See fifth image down. What does the back look like, I have seen a kilt pin brooch a bit like this too? Unlikely to be stocked by a grumpy QM.
Thank you so much. I think this must have belonged to my paternal grandfather. He worked on the railways pre, during (1941 - 46) and post war, the latter period as a porter.
I've attached an image, it's not a pin back. As I said to Temujin, I think it will be my paternal grandfather's. That said on my mother's side there was a Station Master so more research to be done.
