Hi all, Recently I was given a document from my family which belonged to my step-Grandfather. He escaped Germany and fled to South Africa and ended up fighting the nazis is Africa. This is the document, is someone able to identify what is was for (obviously an ID document) and what the writing says? ahh thanks Adamn, yes from doing some googling...I can see its a driver's license and was issued with a stamp from Pr. Eylau. It seems a bit strange to me as this is obviously a German issued license for an area in East Prussia...very interesting thanks
Why strange? East Prussia was German back then (it was issued in 1933)... Would you like the rest translated as well?

I found it a little bit strange that the Germans would be giving out driver's licences to jews in occupied East Prussia...but my understanding of this prewar period is over simplified. [p.2] Driving licence issued for Mr. Alfred Bukofner [not sure whether that's an 'n'?], born on Nov. 13, 1914, in Pr. Eylau, resident in Pr. Eylau road nr. [no entry]. [p.3] Mr. Alfred Bukofner is [authorised by the exam he took which was conducted] by the official expert Dipl. Ing. [graduate engineer] Stellmacher in Pr. Eylau by the exam taken on Sept. 28, 1933, authorised to drive an automobile/motorcycle with internal combustion engine class 1 and 3. Pr. Eylau, Oct. 6, 1933.
