This is a hard one to ID, Been told this was a ww1 camp but looks like they are ripping it down . There is M N on the back of photo. Keith
Hi Keith, Can you please brief us more fully by adding info such as: All your locational/association/usage clues - e.g. Was it even in Blighty ? What can we infer from the photo's provenance ? [*]Literally the full picture as topographical context probably more useful than these crops & enlargements of long-gone camp detail - e.g. The 2 sets of fanning tracks at top hint at something unusual going on there (suspect atypical village rather than farming/industry) Possible sports field at bottom (top of soccer goal ?) may point to a nearby institution (school or prison etc) So far, with the large open area within the 'boundary track' and potential control tower (small-but-tall square building standing out alone over on the right), I'm thinking 'early RAF aerodrome' to be short-listed from some list of such closures - but then there seem to be no aircraft hangars ! Steve
Hi Steve, I bought this of ebay and the guy selling it said it could be an army or pow camp,1920s that was just a guess. i think it is in the UK, i did put the full photo up as well as closeup of parts of it to get a better idea of the make up of the camp. cook house, mess, huts ect. There is a road at the top of the photo. The photo is original not a copy. Keith
OK so the top corners have effectively broken off and all we've got is guesswork? Real needle in haystack stuff - I guess you don't need me to tell you not to hold your breath then! Just to ramble on a bit more, judging by those serried buildings bottom left I'm not so sure it was a camp at all. The roofless 6 are divided into a lot of very small rooms and if the roofed 8 follow suit that would amount to ~238 cells - a far cry from the usual open plan dormitory/ward provision of a military camp or hospital and more suggestive of a munitions factory or criminal prison. Curiouser and curiouser ...
