    Hello all,

Re: Black Watch RHR reinforcements July - Sept 1944

I have just gone through the RHR War Diary for July-Sept/44. There is very little in the way or data or clear # mentions of reinforcements and dates. Maybe I have missed something. The Part I orders with new members joining the regt is incomplete. The War Diary does not mention dates or numbers.

From the Field Returns and going against casualties, you can guestimate. But I would prefer not to.

Does anyone out there have data on how many (per month) reinforcements (new and returning pers) joined the the RHR in Normandy and beyond for July, August and Sept?

A large number arrived post 25 July/44. But I am not sure exactly how much. (?)

The Canadian First Army A & Q Consolidated C & S return (daily) picks up 25 Septemeber/ 44 onwards for reinforcements. But the time before is a bit of a black hole.

Thank you for any data or advice,

There should be an appendix listing the names of those TOS. You probably only have the daily entries.

    Hello John,

Yes, in the Part I orders that follow the War Diary monthly (July, August, ect) entries you would have the TOS and SOS lists.

But (!!) there are no Pt I orders in the box at LAC. Not good. This would solve it all for me in one stroke. I do not know if they survived the war somewhere. But they are not at LAC in Ottawa. The battalion orderly room and battalion 2I/C or Adujant may not have saved them for the War Diary.

If anyone out there does have a copy of the Pt I orders for the Black Watch for July 1944, I do have a research expense budget for this sort of thing. $$$.

Pt II Orders would be more reliable and should be held elsewhere at LAC. Pt I Orders seem to suffer when they were busy.

Compliments of Klambie, I can put you in touch with a researcher in Ottawa who may be able to assist. PM if interested.
