Reading Baverstock's 'Breaking The Panzers' I noticed this on page xx about the actions around Rauray : Book Three of The Official Histories of WW2 (CAB44/250) includes a map showing the locations of a number of German AFVs destroyed during the battle, compiled from an RAF reconnaissance photograph. This aerial photograph was originally part of the 70th Brigade War Diary No. 369 (WO 171/653 ), but is unfortunately now missing from this document. Section D, chapter IV: "break-out", advance and crossing the river Seine 1944 June... | The National Archives Has anyone got this volume and if so can they scan and post the map?
I've got the 'immediate report' which attributes 9 tanks and 2 SPs to the Lancers, 10 tanks to the infantry, 6 tanks to the A/Tk Bty and at least 5 tanks to the medium guns; most tanks being Panthers. There's no map though.
The reason I am asking is the 'fit' 9th SS Panther tank count. July 28 = 73 Panthers EPSOM debut. July 1st = 19 Panthers July 3rd = 20 Panthers July 4th = 35 Panthers July 6th = 37 Panthers July 7th = 43 Panthers Afterward the max number of fit Panthers ever goes above 41. Something hit 9th SS really hard the first few days of July. They admit only 11 Panther total losses up to July 7th.
