A bit of a fraud, isn't it? This article is from 2004: there have been lots more partworks and model collections since then. What the article doesn't mention is that the enormous Star Trek one (305 parts!!) was extended several times. IIRC it was originally 96 parts, then extended to 144, then 192 etc etc. There have been a number of others (eg Dog Collection, Cat Collection, James Bond Cars) where they've announced them as 48 parts and then extended to 60, 72 or 96. Total con IMHO, because what you end up with is absolute tat which is worth f*** all! Parting with your cash for part-work collections - Scotsman.com Living
It would be cheaper to buy an original one from Kassel, Germany. Oops, sorry - The RAF have put paid to that......
It's an international conspiracy !!! saw the Italian version of the thing this morning at a news stand in Rome. After getting burnt with a robot that went from 45 to 80 issues (and raised the issue price twice), I'm keeping well away from the things. I used to buy the finished bound works of many military related series when they came up on the second hand market but the current stuff has more plastic or metal than paper in the box, I have a nice die cast Elephant SPG paid one Euro in the first (underpriced) issue that has been doing service as a paperweight for a year now, that long 88 is worth a dozen "don't touch these" sign, but the ten pages of paper that came with the model went directly to the "circular file".
...the same publisher has started to sell a similar project with a Junkers Ju.87 Stuka... Anothe just started here in Germany. 1/16 scale all etched Brass assembly of a Ju 87 Stuka. 143 issues at just under 9 euros per issue. I cannot see many making the final episode, but the overall cost is staggering. Regards Tom Kuno, I imagine that it will be a nice model when finished, but the price is way too high if you actually manage to finish it. Regards Tom
140 issues! :icon_rofl: :icon_rofl: Thanks guys! I had just sent an email to the magazine to ask that very question. "How Many, at £5.00 a shot? " They never give that sort of info out in the adverts. Bastards!:mad111: Guess I won't have to open the reply now then! These sort of adverts always sound interesting, but I have always had the sense to avoid them like the plague. Tamiya make a great 1/16 Tiger I, radio control at that.
Always the same - first issue a loss-leader, second issue free, then pay through the nose for every issue after (unless it is pulled through lack of interest) then many add-on issues if there are a few clients left. Screw a bit more out of them! Total con. Better off sourcing a (probaby) better quality one elsewhere - and don't have to wait for the next few pieces to arrive (and they are never the bits you want for a sub-assembly)! Never been tempted by one. Mike
guys have just bought the first issue with the KwK 36 l/56 88mm gun it's a very well made metal unit which will cure the problem of the 88 on my remote controlled 1/16th heng long tiger(the main gun is in the recoil position)for the princely sum of 50p as opposed to the convesion kit(about £6.00) RESULT
Tiger Buff good show please post photos of your 1/16th Tiger all would be very interested Here's three provisional photos showing my Heng Long Tiger and the assembled 88 from the magazine to show the difference between the two. PS I won't be using the gun mantlet from the magazine as it's a late model variant with the single sight instead of the Zeiss binocular sight on early tigers and it has a zimmerit coating. When completed it will be of 131 of 504 Schwere Pz Abt (the Bovington tiger)
If I understand correctly you are supplementing your Heng Long Tiger with parts from the magazine, right?
Hi Clive & All, I still think this is way to much just over £700 when you can get a RC Tamiya one from about 300 upwards... And not only that you have to wait almost 3 years to finish it... Cheers Tom
Im saving me money for the aircraft carrier. Hang on isnt that what the navy is doing...620 weeks at 4 quid 7 qiud for 2 or 6 quid if ones shared with France..How many weeks for a Trident replacement..Bugger...glues not stuck this Lancaster wing still..
just a thought.... i know that the Tiger is very interesting....but what the hell are they going to dicuss about it in over 140 issues....is it a case of one big picture and about three sentences ? cheaper to buy the metal mods for the henglong.... i have the Panzer 3 and the Tiger 1 all metal running gear tracks, barrell etc etc
Richard yes 140 the first one explained about the Tiger and then went onto Erwin Rommel will let you know what is in the next issue
