hi, on my Apple device it is reporting that this site is “Not Secure”. Is anyone else seeing that, is it just me and should I worry?

    Regards

    Tom

This is a publically accessible site so it cannot be secure - the security is only when you have 'conversations' direct with other members.

Your bank can on the other hand can be secure as you are only accessing your information

Its all part of the new data laws I believe, you have to be told if its secure or not and take whatever actions you deem necessary

The status of the site is exactly the same as before, it’s just that now Safari will make it clearer whether you’re on an http or an https site. As there are no transactions on the site you may not feel there is anything to worry about. You might want to make sure you don’t reuse your ww2talk password on other sites, and in particular eg bank or Paypal accounts

Just quoting Adam's reply on the previous thread about it now I've merged with the new one asking the same thing.

    ..and this one too

Glad someone mentioned this. Been meaning to say a thing...

Seriously, nothing to worry about really, we're just on the lower security HTTP rather than the shinier and encrypted HTTPS.
It would matter more if we were a commercial enterprise, but we're not.
(Google it, if intrigued. Many more explain it better than I can.)

Quite soon, we're updating the software here to the next generation of Xenforo.
Around then, Otto plans on splashing out on the required SSL certificate/s and will get everything HTTPS so browser programs will stop their nagging.

    Hi all,

Thanks for the explanation - on balance I think I can relax and go back to looking obsessively for photos and documentation about Austin K5's! :D:screwy:

    Regards

The same warning is initiated using the Opera browser.

I note that some technical websites also carry the warning.

I'll draw attention to the article I posted (Post #20) regarding https earlier in this thread. I've noted recently that at least one brand of forum software (I forget which, possibly Invision) has made it easier to switch to https in a recent upgrade.

It's apparently fairly easy to do whatever, but the SSL certificates need buying first (across different history sites/servers that Otto runs; here, 2F, WW2.org, Hyperwar etc.), and with a software upgrade on the near horizon it makes sense to tidy stuff up in more of a lump rather than possibly have to re-do things.

A potential new member said they didn't want to join as the website is not secure.
Have sent them a link to this thread & bumping it so other potential members who maybe put off can see it.

Wasn't there a car manufacturer who's selling line was "safe at any speed"?

It occasionally pops up for no apparent reason almost at random. I'm on Windows 10 and Opera

    Robert,

Yes, and I have decided there are bigger things to worry about at the moment. :peepwalla:

Rather like a French aristo being handed a tax demand as he gets in the tumbril
