hello all, I was looking for some history and backgroud on a specific signal flare pistol and figured a forum such as this would be a good place to start. the signal flare pistol I am referring too was used by the British Royal Flying Corp during WWI and WW2. It was made by Webley and from what I can tell was used on various ships to signal aircraft. What I want to know is its origins and if anyone actually has one intact. Webley No.1 MK1 Flare Pistol. this particular model was used in several films over the years and is of great interest to me. any information anyone can throw up would be greatly appreciated
Estimate: $1000 - 1500 The left side of the barrel is marked "1917 / WEBLEY & SCOTT LTD / LONDON & BIRMINGHAM" and "No 1 MARK "I"" over British broad arrow and crown proofs. The left side of the frame is marked "No 1 MARK "1"" with proofmarks at the rear. Like this?
