I do not know if this topic goes into this forum however, I'm curious about something. My grandfather was a British Israelite and it was "said" that he did some work in rescuing Jews in World War Two. Is there any information on this and where could I find this? Thank you!
Lady Prime Intrigued by your thread title British Israelites saving Jews in World War 2 The dictionary defines an Israelite as "A native or inhabitant of the ancient kingdom of Israel" but I joke, of course, and know that you refer to someone who patently looked to help a fellow human in their hour of need. As Jed has intimated, you need to start with a name and whatever info you are sitting on and you will soon discover that this forum has some excellent researchers who will be only too happy to help. Regards Ron
It would help if we had his name - I have a friend who is a specialist researcher into this topic Oh my gosh..I'm so sorry. It's been a rather touchy night for me last night and I didn't put the name down.. His name was John Brock.. He was from Scotland and relocated to Stratford Ontario Canada (I'm guessing after the war). From what I was told, he has a tree planted in Jerusalem in his name for what he's done. Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate this..
it was not uncommon for jews to be rescued, but not in large numbers. this is from part of my research around Middlesborough - when 20 children were smuggled from Germany just before the start of the war Victory Booklet 1946 The Secretary's Report They were helped and supported in every way by a very loyal and hard-working committee. In particular I would like to mention the name of Mr. A. Halson, President of our Congregation to date, who has always worked hard and conscientiously for the good of our Community. Our first big undertaking when the shadows of warloomed nearer, was to hold a mass meeting of the whole congregation, and decide to open a hostel for the children escaping from Nazi persecution. The Benjamin family generously offered a free house at 5, The Avenue, and gifts of money, furniture, and cutlery, etc., were spontaneously offered. Soon a beautiful home was offered to 20 of these children, and the people of Middlesbrough excelled themselves in making these unhappy children, torn away from their parents, feel wanted and welcome. The hostel was maintained right through the war at the approximate weekly cost of £20. 0. 0. As the girls left school they were trained in a trade of their own choice. Some left Middlesbrough and took up posts in larger towns, others again were happily re-united with their parents and relatives. Most of us identified ourselves with the cause, but the name of Mr. Lionel Levy will always stand out in those children’s memory as one who devoted so much of his time for their happiness. source: Kehilat Middlesbrough Newsletter and Archives
Hi, as this thread could confuse people as to what a British-Israelite is, (they are a fundamentalist group) here is a link to an explanation on wiki: British Israelism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia BRITISH-ISRAELISM

He may have been involved in the Kindertransport Kindertransport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia or there may have been efforts made by other organisations which are not publicized Thank you! When I read the information, I was thinking that my grandfather's actions were a little "off" however, Uncle John has all of his diaries about his actions which I need to get ahold of. The only information I was told about Grandpa Brock was that he also knew Golda Meier and worked with her son quite frequently. My grandfather, to get the record straight, was NOT Jewish at all but Scottish. Thank you all for your help in this...
Lady Prime - Not wishing to become too deeply involved in this thread - and as you say - you are trying to "keep the record" straight - I am slightly confused that you make the determination that your G/Father Brock was NOT jewish but Scottish - seems to me that you are confusing a nationality with a religion inasmuch as Scotland is a nation whereas - to my uncertain knowledge - the descendants of the ancient kingdom of Israel which were the offspring - amongst other Middle East nations of Shem or Sem ( Noah's second son )which is where the term Semite originates and thus other nations are properly also Semites, but only the erstwhile Israelites follow the Torah /Talmud as their religion whereas the other Semites - i.e Arabs etc follow Islam ??? Trust you can see my confusion as some Scots are also Jews/Catholics even ...but the name of Brock certainly rings many bells in Ontario. Cheers

Cheers Not a problem as I am going only on the information given to me. Yes, Grandpa was a descendant of Sir Issac Brock (in case you were wondering). Since he was NOT Jewish, I was wondering how he became one and thus did so much work in World War 2 to get a tree planted in Jerusalem in his honor.
