British Internment camps for Jews in Cyprus

I am just reading a book in German by an author from Israel: Amos Oz
Amos is claiming that Jews wanting to travel to Palestine, sometimes were placed in British Internment Camps in Cyprus, before moving them to Palestine
That was new to me.

Interception of refugee Jewish boats was controversial post-war, reaching a peak before the British left Palestine. I am reasonably sure the film 'Exodus' has a recreated example of an intercept by the RN.

Cyprus was a convenient location and being a British colony too. Never read anything about that. Malta is too far away.

in my job, I also spent some time in Cyprus to travel to a number of Mid East countries.
The locals (Greek speaking) never mentioned it to me. Neither did colleagues and customers in Israel.
