In fact I think it is indeed this plane, and the grave is next to me that Sgt Reginald Vincent Kingshott. unfortunately I do not know why the information "Sergeant" on the grave of the left has disappeared over the years ...

Could the grave next to Sgt John Artur Hunter be that of Sgt Reginald Vincent Kingshott who was posted as MIA ?

    Hi Keith,

Indeed I think so, this photo was on sale there shortly, and I missed it unfortunately.

On the historical photo, we just read "Sergeant" while on the stelae today, there is nothing said.

it is a guess on my part, but I do not know if this could be enough to make rename the grave by the CWGC ?????

RAF mia.jpg I think you would need DNA to prove it. Graves 4, 5 & 6 RAF on the list. I cant see grave number 6 in the photo unless its the one with the ? or out of shot.
I wonder if they are the rest of the crew ? from the 59 Squadron Blenheim that was shot down over the sea on 17th July 1940.
Info on the back of photo.

I think we need DNA to formally identify the "sergeant". I understand you are the proud owner of the photo?
But I can always ask the CWGC?
I also see with the city of Cayeux view exsitence of a possible death certificate 1940

grave number 6 (possible P/O Jackson)

I suspect the problem here is that even if the bodies were retrieved from the sea on the same day (and it certainly seems that the crosses were made by the same person), that would be no proof that they were both from the same aeroplane. If it had crashed on land then the circumstantial evidence would be much stronger. It may just be that the burial reports include mention of personal effects which could lead to identification. Presumably the lack of a precise date indicates that the body could have been in the water for some time.

With regard to the lack of rank on the modern headstone, is it not so that 'unidentifieds' only ever state "Soldier", "Officer", "Airman" etc. ? Are exact ranks ever stated where the identity is not known ?

I fully agree with you Rich, the bodies have definitely been recovered at sea or on the beach.
Otherwise it is common to see tombs with just the grade, or other information

    an example:

I think the photo may have been taken at La Chapelette ? British and Indian cemetery near Peronne, there are a few Australian in there as well.

Has anyone shared it on GWF to see if the cemetery can be identified?

Do they say "Engl. Hauptm." and "Engl. Uffz." ?

English Officer and English NCO which doesn't help much with pinning things down.
